"Cool Edit 96 rocks. Have used cool edit for years, now use cool edit pro 2. I feel it is a shame that it has been bought out by Adobe, but hope that the creators of this marvelous program have a happy and financially secure retirement. Cool Edit is THE audio editor. Much more intuitive than SoundForge and in its later forms (Cool Edit 2) supports multi-track recording and editing. Stick 5 SoundBlaster Live value cards into your computer with Kx Project drivers, add CoolEdit 2 and you've got a state of the art recording studio (ok so you need some microphones and stuff as well)."

"CoolEdit is *THE* *ULTIMATE* wav/sound editor! True, it does not support multiple tracks, but a clever user can find ways around this shortcoming. If you truly need multiple tracks, you can afford to buy the real thing! CHEAPSKATE!!! I am not employed in audio, I use the program to loop beats! It is AWESOME! I can time expand or compress (that means custom beats per minute), do *ANY* guitar pedal effect (reverb, distortion, choral... sure, it takes a minute or two, if you want instantaneous effects you have to pay $60 per effect for a pedal!)... I recommend that any audiophile, any Digital DJ, anyone interested in manipulating audio get this program, (and now that it's bought out...) get a crack, and BURN IT! This is an invaluable resource for manipulating single audio tracks! What more can I say?"

"I downloaded the trial version, then sent in my nominal fee to Syntrillium (owner & creator at the time) years ago. As an amateur picker, I've benefitted greatly from recording my favorite licks and slowing them down / looping them to learn what I could not otherwise. I am concerned, however, about how to keep this pgm alive when my computer dies- since I don't have it on a disk to reload and Syntrillium is gone. Any ideas? "

"can you work with mp3 music with cool edit 96 ? can you record in mp3 ? thanks much for any help. Grady. "

"I got the CoolEdit96 demo by chance many many years ago, and have used it countless times to record songs. The plug ins and in particular the noise reduction features are second to none - even today I think. The only drawback (aside from the 2 function demo limit, which doesn't bother me much) is the limit of one track. For years, while I was poor, I just "mix-pasted" lots of tracks onto the one. A bit dodgy quality wise but it worked. Now, I use ProTools, I still transfer files between a lot so I can use the noise reducer and really cool FX (which are waaaaay better - shocking!). Amazing piece of software!!! "

"If evryone used cracks and didn't purchase the software developers there would be no software. Cool Edit 96 is an exception though because it is very difficult to find and hasn't been sold in a long time. Adobe has bought the rights to Cool Edit Pro and now sell it under the name of Audition. I now use Audition for multitrack recording and editing and it is wonderful. I used Cool Edit Pro before that, Cool Edit 2000 before that, Cool Edit 96 before that and Cool Edit 1.51 before that. They are all great and I would recommend each one for different computer systems. If you want to use all of the options of Cool Edit 96 without limitations read on... Cool Edit 96 Installation Notes: 1.) Run "c96setup.exe" 2.) When prompted enter NAME: PhRoZeN CReW 4.) When prompted enter CODE: MPULQSZB Enjoy!!!"

- meeme, Saturday, July 24, 2004

"Hey, when you search google for 'cool edit 96', this site comes out on top, even over adobe! This is the best sound editing program i have seen. It does so much, and the file size is tiny. Eight years down the line, i think it's still best."

- Edo, Wednesday, July 21, 2004

"As simple as it it, its one of the most powerful music programs if used correctly. Of all mixing programs out there that I couldnt figure out how to use, cool edit can be utilized for mixing. Its superb clip control can let you adjust tempo and pitch to a .01 %, coupled with trial and error of mixing these clips together, eventually you can come out with a great product. You can have multiple clips to work with at once, change sounds in millions of ways that you could imagine (and some that you cant) screw adobe, screw all those $500 expensive music editors. I would pick Cool Edit 96 over any other music software any day. Syntrillium created something magical, thats why adobe was quick to buy them out, because they saw the potential!"

"Do not allow anyone to tell you to remove or discontinue the distribution of this product for any reason. I am going to be filing charges against Adobe for breach of trust under the 14th amendment. Make certain that this remains available to all citizens and musicians and electricians for I am all three. In 1996 I exercised, in a court of law sworn to the Constitution, all my rights and prerogatives and corporate treason has followed ever since trying to destroy the protection I established for myself and the People. refer to San Diego Municipal case 054021 of Dec. 1996. This program with the brainwave sync creation is very important....though the average user does not understand why. Those wanting to know more can email me."

"Thanks for the keeping the dream alive. Cool Edit 96 is the easiest to use, the coolest, sound editor out there, check it out! You can't ask for more, the effects are cool even if you have to do a bit of tweaking and re-opening program etc to use more than 2 in one session. Audacity seems cool too, but hey, I grew up with Cool Edit and it's still my fave. "

"If you use anything else before you use this - you've been wasting your time. If you can't intuitively use this package - then give up - or go and learn some more theory - I mean you have know what compression ratios of 2:1 mean and sound like, but if you dont you're in the game ... The GUI interface is just terrific, and I just love programs like this that are so transparent and user friendly. Sure you can move on to more complicated scenarios with other exhorbitantly priced packages - but hey - as shareware entry level - I defy anyone to do better - same goes for dBaudio Ripper - Great Sstuff"
