Have used cool edit for years, now use cool edit pro 2. I feel it is a shame that it has been bought out by Adobe, but hope that the creators of this marvelous program have a happy and financially secure retirement.
Cool Edit is THE audio editor. Much more intuitive than SoundForge and in its later forms (Cool Edit 2) supports multi-track recording and editing. I am not employed in audio, I use the program to loop beats! It is AWESOME! I can time expand or compress (that means custom beats per minute), do *ANY* guitar pedal effect (reverb, distortion, choral... sure, it takes a minute or two, if you want instantaneous effects you have to pay $60 per effect for a pedal!)... I recommend that any audiophile, any Digital DJ, anyone interested in manipulating audio get this program, (and now that it's bought out...) get a crack, and BURN IT! This is an invaluable resource for manipulating single audio tracks! What more can I say?"

"I downloaded the trial version, then sent in my nominal fee to Syntrillium (owner & creator at the time) years ago. As an amateur picker, I've benefitted greatly from recording my favorite licks and slowing them down / looping them to learn what I could not otherwise. I am concerned, however, about how to keep this pgm alive when my computer dies- since I don't have it on a disk to reload and Syntrillium is gone. Any ideas?

"If evryone used cracks and didn't purchase the software developers there would be no software. Cool Edit 96 is an exception though because it is very difficult to find and hasn't been sold in a long time. Adobe has bought the rights to Cool Edit Pro and now sell it under the name of Audition. I now use Audition for multitrack recording and editing and it is wonderful. I used Cool Edit Pro before that, Cool Edit 2000 before that, Cool Edit 96 before that and Cool Edit 1.51 before that. They are all great and I would recommend each one for different computer systems.
If you want to use all of the options of Cool Edit 96 without limitations read on...
Cool Edit 96 Installation Notes:
1.) Run "c96setup.exe"
2.) When prompted enter NAME: PhRoZeN CReW
4.) When prompted enter CODE: MPULQSZB

learn some more theory - I mean you have know what compression ratios of 2:1 mean and sound like, but if you dont you're in the game ...
The GUI interface is just terrific,
and I just love programs like this that are so transparent and user friendly.
Sure you can move on to more complicated scenarios with other exhorbitantly priced packages - but hey - as shareware entry level - I defy anyone to do better - same goes for dBaudio Ripper - Great Sstuff"

COMMENT ON COOL EDIT 96
We would really appreciate if you who have downloaded this software would write a few lines about
what you think of it and if/how you've used it to create music.
Note: This form is not for requesting support on this software (that's what the Forum is for).
